Artist Bio
New York City producer David Levy, aka Out to Lunch, has just released his new Alternative Jazz album with Southeast Asian artist Etson Caminha, Out to Lunch Featuring Etson (MesaBluemoon Recordings). Levy had been traveling the world to discover and produce musicians living in refugee camps and post-conflict countries for his last project, The World United in Song (PeaceTones), when he met Etson. Etson hails from the small island of Timor-Leste, where he grew up consumed by his country's fight for independence. Timor-Leste became an independent nation in 2002, at last providing the freedom for Etson to create, and, with Levy, Out to Lunch Featuring Etson has delivered an album of infectious grooves that spans Alternative Jazz, World Music, Reggae, Hiphop, and Funk.
The one of a kind lyrics were initially created through improvisation that was recorded and eventually developed into structured songs that portray Etson's linguistic history: Fataluku, the native language of his village, Tetum, the language of Timor-Leste, Portuguese and Indonesian, the colonial languages, but most importantly, "words" that evoke the sentiment of each song. This improvised structure was not new to Levy who has been pushing the depths of the underground New York jazz scene with Out to Lunch for close to two decades. OTL has released five albums: Excuse Me While I Do the Boogaloo, Melvin’s Rockpile, No One Left Behind, Uptown 6, and now Out to Lunch Featuring Etson. Levy plays bass clarinet, soprano saxophone, bansuri flute and Ableton Live while Etson ingeniously makes music with anything that can create a sound.

FYC : Alternative Jazz
NYC Producer David Levy, aka Out to Lunch, presents a new Alternative Jazz album with Southeast Asian artist Etson. The eight tracks are a fusion of jazz, electronic world, reggae, hip hop, and funk sung in a unique language developed specifically for the release.
"The whole album was written and recorded by the ocean. I think the ebb and flow of the music unconsciously followed the tide."

What People Are Saying
“A distinctive brand of funk…expanding the range of the listener’s experience.” – Billboard Magazine
“New York group Out to Lunch refuses to accept that there are no new ideas left for 21st-century jazz musicians. On their second album, the band – part of the sizzling scene surrounding New York City musical hotbed Nublu — brings forth a percolating blend of funk riffs, hip-hop beats, post-bop jazz chops, and dashes of dub and electronica production techniques.” – LimeWire
“Bandleader David Levy (woodwinds and electronics) translates his enthusiasm for James Brown’s rhythmic genius and Eric Dolphy’s improvisational acumen into this ambitious and funky groove-prov octet. Funk, jazz, gospel, and dub bounce smartly around the room on the Lunch’s highly enjoyable new Excuse Me While I Do the Boogaloo.” – Village Voice
“Levy’s soloing on bass clarinet, sax and bansuri flute is accomplished and compelling, while his deft use of Ableton Live elevates this from being latter-day Weather Report.” – Exclaim Magazine
